The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has secured a
remand warrant to further detain the Spokesman for the Goodluck Jonathan
Campaign Organisation, Femi Fani-Kayode, who was detained on Monday over the
receipt of public funds to the tune of N840 million out of the N4 billion
payout for the presidential election last year.
The remand warrant will enable the
anti-graft agency to keep the former minister beyond the stipulated time
allowed by law. The move, according to EFCC, is to enable the operatives to
conduct proper investigation into how he got the money, what it was used for
and who the beneficiaries are.
The former minister confessed to receiving, was said to have
emanated from the account of the Central Bank of Nigeria. The commission had
recently frozen the ex-minister’s Zenith Bank account with number 1004735721
domiciled at Maitama, Abuja.
The remand warrant is newable after 14 days.
