Fuel Hike: NANS Occupies Osun State (Photos)

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Zone D, yesterday stormed the streets of the ancient city of Ile-Ife in Osun state to protest the hike in the price of petrol by the Buhari led administration.
According to the press statement, the Deputy Coordinator (NANS) Zone D, Comr Afolabi Saheed calls on President Buhari to reverse the hike in fuel price or present immediate palliatives that would save our economy from further depletion and deterioration.
He further said: “The government should see to our pleas as their defiance would give our already commercialized institutions the best chance of inflating the already inflated school fees”

NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN STUDENTS(NANS)
PRESS ADDRESS OVER FUEL PRICE HIKE,MAY 24TH 2016
The National Association of Nigerian students (NANS) is an umbrella body for all students studying around the Federation. Hence, the apex body for students movement. Our role in bringing about cherished democracy cannot be undermined.
We must use this golden opportunity to clarify the air about the purported claim of NANS ZONE D backing fuel subsidy removal. The National Association of Nigerian students(NANS) is constitutionally divided into the National,Zonal and State axis. The zone D coordinator in person of Com.Ogunsola Okikiola Mubarak  has respectedly acted against the interest of Nigerian students in the Zone .So,his callous support for the fuel hike was no surprise. Compromise is what has defaced our great Association in the last few years. This is what we stand to repel and correct. Many thanks to God,the upcoming Convention will give us the ample opportunity of correcting the many abnormalities in the National organ of the Association. Hence,we call for a SACROSANCT CONVENTION as all plans geared towards the postponement will be futile. Though there are elements bought by meagre in the Zone where we currently operate, our ideologies and zealousness for which we are widely known for will not be tainted for the sake of gold diggers and cheap seekers of affluence and influence. The stand of the majority is clear as the Congress held in Ibadan ratified the need for this solidarity movement.
Our demands are clear.
The Buhari led Administration should reverse the hike in fuel prices or present immediate palliatives that would save our economy from further depletion and deterioration. Transporting fare has hiked, rendering our students wandering in moments when lectures are treated. Goods and commodities have gotten to the peak, yet the minimum wages is still the same. A government justifying pain as a necessity to success lack humour. Running a country is not running a firm. The government should see to our pleas as their defiance would give our already commercialized institutions the best chance of inflating the already inflated school fees.
One would wonder,if there is legit justification to fuel subsidy removal in the first place. Why are Civil societies bought off to stop strike/protests?. Why has the government who violently preached against corruption bribed off people protesting to show displeasures?. If the Buhari led government is sincere, bribing should not be a resort in pacifying anti subsidy protesters. For this main reason, despite all odds and threats from people of substance in the Zone(South west) we have decided to march ahead in registering our discontentment with the satanic increase of fuel price.
Our strength might not move mountains,it is more than sufficient in convincing a responsive and responsible government. Till our demands are given favourable conditions,we are ready to mobilise on daily basis in expressing our views.
SUBSIDY REMOVAL WITHOUT SHORT AND LONG TERM PALLIATIVES IS NONSENSICAL!
SUBSIDY REMOVAL IN A POOR ECONOMY IS SUICIDAL!
SUBSIDY REMOVAL WITHOUT PLANS IS VISIONLESS!
HEED OUR PLEA NOW!!!!
SIGNED:
Comr Afolabi Saheed(SEEDORF)
NANS DEPUTY COORDINATOR,ZONE D(SOUTH WEST NIGERIA)
