The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on
Monday obtained a court order to further detain a former Minister of Aviation
and spokesperson of the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign
Organisation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode. The warrant of detention was obtained at
an Ikeja Magistrate Court in Lagos State.
Fani-Kayode, who is at present in the custody of the EFCC in
its Lagos office, has been accused of receiving N840 million from a slush fund
of N23.3 billion provided by a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani
Alison-Madueke.
The court granted the request of the EFCC to further detain
Fani-Kayode for another three weeks though the anti-graft agency requested for
one month. An initial order was obtained in Abuja a fortnight ago to detain him
for two weeks.
