Unknown Gunmen Kill Two Policemen In Abia



 
Two policemen have been shot dead in Aba,  Abia state by unknown gunmen suspected to be kidnappers.
The gunmen carried out the deadly act as they made to escape with a businessman they had abducted in the city.

The Police Area Commander in charge of Aba, ACP Peter Wagbara, had mobilised his men to block suspected escape routes that the kidnappers who had abducted a businessman at Tenant road were going to take. On sighting the Police team, the gunmen opened fire killing two officers and before they escaped.
Vanguard gathered that the gunmen dressed in military camouflage, fearing that the Police had closed in on them, abandoned the kidnapped businessman and his Lexus 300 SUV. 

According to Police sources, “the police patrol teams were rushing to block a suspected escape route; but on sighting the police, the gunmen opened fire, killing one of the officers on the spot, while the other one who sustained severe gunshot injuries was rushed to the hospital where he died later.” 

The situation created tension in the city as there was heavy security deployment around Ngwa road linking the Orji Uzor Kalu Bridge, where the incident took place. 

Police Public Relations Officer, Abia State Police Command, SP Ezekiel Onyeke, however, confirmed the death of the two police officers, rescue of the businessman and his car, added that the police have launched efforts to track the fleeing gangsters and urged the public not to hesitate to volunteer useful information that could lead to the arrest of the gunmen.
