A policeman, simply identified as Kabiru has allegedly shot
a motorcyclist, popularly called an okada rider dead this morning at Ilaro in
Ogun state.
The deceased who have been identify as Saheed Bamiro.
One of Saheed’s neighbour, Iyabo had reportedly went to the
police station to report him and when police came to arrest him with handcuffs,
he resisted and in the ensuing argument, the policeman allegedly shot him in
the head, killing him instantly.
The incident occurred at 71, Olukoku Street, around the De
Bash Filling station, Ijebu Ode, early on Wednesday, December 1.
According to an eyewitness, Comrade Yemi Ijaoba Odukoya, the
chairman of the Vigilante Service of Ogun state (VSO), the remains of the
deceased has been taken to the state mortuary, Omo- owo area, Ijebu Ode.
Odukoya said:
“I received a
distress call from some elders in the area and when I rushed there, I met the
man in the pool of his own blood.
“We tried to see if the man can still get over it, but he
had died immediately he was shot. I have took his remains to the state
mortuary.
“What I was told was that he had a long time quarrel with
one of her neighbours, identified as Iyabo and the woman had gone to the police
station to inform them that the man is around and a police officer was attached
to her to go and arrest the man.
“It was in the course of getting the man arrested and
handcuffed that he resisted and the police was said to have shot him on his
head and he died immediately.
“I have put a call across to the Area Commander at Igbeba
and what I was told was that the policeman has been arrested and detained for
further interrogation,” the VSO boss explained.
Some resident however took to the street to protest the
killing of Saheed.
He is survived by a wife, Seun, and three young children.
